Birthday Friends

I think Liam’s birth story will always begin with the birth of his friend Henry, born June 8th – just 6 days before Liam showed up.

We went to visit Henry when he was no more than 24 hour old. In the car ride to the hospital we talked with a very excited Nathan about what to do when visiting a baby (ask before touching the baby, use hand sanitizer, be calm, quiet and gentle). Of course, Nathan, being more than ready to become a big brother, asked if Henry’s arrival meant his baby was coming soon. And we reminded him of our mantra:

What do we tell our baby?
Hi Baby! Stay put till end of summer!

We arrived at Henry’s room, stood outside the door to get one more squirt of hand sanitizer, and before going in, Nathan took a look at the big bump that his baby hand said “Stay put baby!”

36 hours later I was in labor.

Tonight our bible study is having a little party to celebrate these two sweet boys as they turn one. They have very different personalities, and being developmentally two months apart, still have a pretty big skill difference at this point. We joke that someday, Henry and Liam will be the same age. And we hope that someday they will be great friends.
