He still might be a singer

Tim says his proudest parent moments are:

The afternoon Nathan was listening to a new Peter, Paul and Marie CD and on hearing the final chord of a song, started clapping BEFORE the CD audience. He can hear final cadences!

And then last weekend when we were play around and I bwwwed (is that how you spell a raspberry?) out a rhythm, Nathan said “Jiggle Bells!” and picked up singing the song where I had left off the rhythm. He knew a song by its rhythm!

I kinda agree. Those were pretty amazing moments. Although I still remember the swell of pride when Nathan first got his platelet count up. Clearly we are dorky music parents.

In the car this morning we were singing a song Auntie Sarah style* (we sing a line and Nathan sings the next one) and while the words were (mostly) there and the rhythm was spot on, it was not exactly what we’d call tuneful. And I said to Tim, You know he might not be a singing - I was singing tunefully at his age - But clearly he’s musical. And that was that, until 5 minutes later when Tim said, Wait, you were singing tunefully two weeks before you were two years old? No, sometime when I was two. Well then, we’ve got twelve more months!

So Nathan might be a singer. But he doesn't have to be. Either way, we love sharing music with our nearly two year old. And love that he clearly loves it too.

(*When Auntie Sarah was two or three and her big sister tried to teach her a repeat after me song, she decided it was much more fun to simply sing the next line, minus all the repeating nonsense.)
