March 6, November 5, it's all the same to Liam

Heard very quietly from the 4 year old in the back seat : "Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and PLOT."
Thank you Paddington Bear.

Name that tune

Liam, quietly in the back seat while listening to Revolver on the way to school: "it IS a good day for sunshine..."

Why do we blog?

(I mean, aside from the fact we don't really at the moment...)

Once upon a time, we were thrown into parenthood 11 weeks early and needed a place to keep family and friends up to date as we figured out NICU life and life life with a preemie, and so this blog was born. And then three years later we did it all again. And then we stopped blogging.

Initially we had lots of time to write long updates - we were in the NICU, what else were we going to do? And as we continued to have medically complicated kids there continued to be long updates. Then the blog seemed like a good place to share pictures, but I switched from a PC to a Mac and stopped being able to add photos to the blog (yes - I see the irony in the fact that moving to the artist's favorite platform made it suddenly impossible for me to do anything artistic...) and there was no longer time for long posts, so this poor blog has been long neglected.

BUT why not make it a place for little updates and a record that we can look back on and see what our family was up to? So that's the new plan - short and sweet is much better than not at all. And if nothing else, I'll be glad do look back on this record when we are empty nesters (which could be before we turn 50!!).

Now to go grab all those short and sweet things that have landed on facebook and move them over here for safe keeping...

Leprechauns and Warrior Saints

Driving to church yesterday Nathan asked if "The Leprechaun" (there's only one?) brings anything to our house. Umm... no.

So we talked about folklore and legends and leprechaun (which I don't actually know anything about) and then get to the real heart of the day - Saint Patrick! Anther subject I know very little about, but we all know Saint Patrick's Breastplate, so at least we got some good hymn singing in.

Thanks to the following discussion on what a breastplate is (FINALLY something I knew!) Nathan now thinks Saint Patrick was a warrior. It might be time to do some research.

Mozart and Snark

Driving to Grandma and Grandpa's house earlier today we had our local classical radio station on because Mama was sick of all the options Liam was suggesting and Nathan wasn't interested in weighing in. We also headed out in mid conversation, so no one was really listening to the music anyway.

The conversation died down and Liam started to grumble a bit about the music and then all was quiet until I heard from the back seat:

"Mumble mumble mumble Mozart."
"What Nathan?"
"MOZART"
"What about Mozart?"
"THIS is Mozart."
"Are you sure?"
"YES (complete with audible eye roll)"

We all start listening carefully. Liam, who is always reluctant to agree with his brother until he has first disagreed say it's Vivaldi or Beethoven or Schubert (hey - listing composers names is a start) and then agrees it is Mozart. I was unconvinced. Until the second movement began. And it was most definitely Mozart.

Nathan, quietly from the back seat: "Told you Mama..."

Mozart was followed by Bach, who we all agreed on right away.

So name that composer continues, now with a dash of snark.
