Thankful

Clearly we’re not real bloggers since our Thanksgiving post is coming in December… but really this is a Thanksgiving/Christmas/Has another month really gone by? post… Like I said, we’re not real bloggers.

Tim and I were talking about Christmas presents. Since being married, we’ve intentionally made Christmas a time for small gifts. Our first Christmas as a husband and wife was just three months after our wedding – we’d barely finished opening the wedding presents and did not need or want anything, so we gave each other an ornament. Our second Christmas I was pregnant and we were both spending too much time up in the middle of the night (thank you heartburn) so pajamas (maternity for me, warm for midnight runs to the drug store for Tim) it was. But this year I’m thinking bigger. Three Christmases later I still don’t need or want anything, but I’ve got a big gift for Tim in mind. I think because this year feels like more than a Christmas present. I know we’re supposed to be celebrating the birth of Christ, but in our house we’re also celebrating surviving 2011. This feels like a Merry Christmas / Happy New Year / Let’s never ever go through another year like this one ever again present. It was not an easy year, but we have a lot to be thankful for – our healthy, happy, miraculous Nathan, our loving, supportive family and friends, and yes, incredible health insurance.
