Some people didn't like Jesus.

It seems Nathan took away more from our Thursday night home communion than I thought. This morning as he ate first breakfast, I made french toast and Daddy loaded the dishwasher, he spotted a cup on its way to be cleaned that was a little purple from grape juice.

Nathan: Hey! That’s grape juice! We had that at Aiden’s house.
Mama: We did. And we have some here. Would you like some?
Nathan: Yah. (after getting his juice) OH! Now we need the story! And the bread! We forgot the bread!

So I got the prayer book we’d used at dinner Thursday night, gave Nathan a slice of bread, and we read the story of the Last Supper from the Gospel of John. When Jesus broke the bread, Nathan broke of pieces of bread for Mama and Daddy. When Jesus shared the cup, Nathan offered us his juice. And when we said that at this meal Jesus reminded his friends that the most important thing is to love each other, Nathan reminded us that not everyone loved Jesus. Some people didn’t like him at all.

Mama: That’s right. Some people were scared of what Jesus said and were scared of him. They didn’t like being told that the most important thing is to love each other and love God – they only wanted to think about themselves.
Nathan: Yah. That’s why he died.

So there you have it.
