The Santa Saga Continues

Part 1 Part 2 and Some Thoughts

A few days ago Nathan announced, "You know what Dada? When you and Mommy and Liam and everyone are all asleep, I am going to wake up and wake you up and we’ll go downstairs and see Santa come down the chimney.”

At dinner with the Archibald boys this evening, as we talked about Christmas plans, Nathan shared our plan to be up “so late in the early morning that it’s not even really tomorrow” (2:30am) to drive to “my Susie and Jorge’s House” which launched naturally into the plan to get up once again while every reasonable person is sleeping to see Santa. Zion immediately announced “Santa isn’t real” which prompted a sideways glance to me from Nathan.

“Maybe Santa is real at in some homes and not real in others” I suggested.
“Yah!” concluded Harvey (with great logic and diplomacy) “Because Santa comes down the chimney and not every house has a chimney. We don’t have a chimney.”
“And Susie and Jorge DO have a chimney!” Nathan concluded

From there we went on to talk about the magic of Christmas, whether reindeer are real (yes) and can fly (it’s probably just a magical Christmas story) and where penguins live (not the North Pole). And the boys shared their favorite parts of Christmas. Harvey feels that this year he is as excited to give presents as to receive them; Nathan’s favorite part is the stockings that were empty being filled in the morning “just like my mama’s favorite part”.

So as we get closer to Christmas Day the steady logic that Nathan wanted to hang on to a few weeks ago is giving way to the magic and mystery. And Tim and I are just doing our best to keep up!
